Coffee is a lifesaver-- literally
I have some good news for all you coffee addicts out there.
Coffee is not only making you a better person to be around-- it's also adding years to your life! (insert happy dance here)
According to a report recently published in BMJ, consuming coffee may lower the risk for death as well as a broad spectrum of negative health outcomes.
A study that accounted for poor lifestyle habits, such as eating red meat and skipping exercise, found that those who drank at least one cup of coffee each day lowered their risk of dying from lifestyle-related health problems.
Researchers found that drinking coffee was more beneficial than it was harmful. Better yet, the largest risk reductions, all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality, occurred in those consuming three to four cups of coffee a day vs. none. (I'll cheers to that!)
Drinking coffee was also linked to a lower risk for type 2 diabetes; prostate, endometrial, skin and liver cancers; liver cirrhosis; dementia; gallstones; gout; Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases; and depression.
Coffee helps increase dopamine levels in the brain (aka happiness levels) and it also contains ingredients that lowers blood pressure.
While doctors still won't be recommending coffee to their patients to help improve their health, we can all rest knowing that coffee, despite all the warnings and claims saying otherwise, is generally safe.
On your third cup of coffee? Good!
